Numi Flowering Tea: The Fusion of Art and
Brew
In 1999, brother and sister team Ahmed and Reem Numi created
the Numi Tea company to offer tea drinkers worldwide an
innovative, exotic assortment of organic teas and tisanes.
Among the most recognized of offerings is their hallmark
Numi flowering tea, which is produced in the southwestern
Yunnan province of China .
This flowering tea consists of a hand sewn tea bundle
or rosette that is created from white tea buds, green tea
leaves, and golden-tipped black tea.
When the rosette is steeped in hot water, it slowly
blooms into a beautiful flower and creates a brew that is rich
with flavor and beauty.
A glass teapot is used for steeping so the visual
impact can be fully enjoyed.
To make the tea "art,", follow these steps.
- Place the tea bundle in a durable glass teapot.
Remove the strainer – it isn’t needed.
- Boil water and gently pour over the tea until the
teapot is filled to the top.
- Steep for 2-3 minutes and watch the tea bundle
transform into its own art form.
The brew creates a variety of different flavors depending on
the type of tea purchased – from delicate and sweet to savory
and bold. Each rosette is typically priced just under $20US per
rosette and is packaged in a dark mahagony box.
